NoProp27 is an independent, non-partisan publication that explains gambling law and policy, starting with California: what is legal, who regulates it, how the rules came about and what they mean for players, voters and families. It covers tribal gaming, sports betting across the United States, taxes on winnings, ballot measures and the help available to people who gamble too much.

Every explainer is checked against primary sources: statutes and bills on the California Legislature's site, the Secretary of State's voter guides, the Attorney General's Bureau of Gambling Control, the California Gambling Control Commission, the IRS and Franchise Tax Board, the National Indian Gaming Commission and court opinions. Sources are listed under each article. Laws change, so articles say when a fact is current “at the time of writing” and point to the official source.

The publication does not take sides on ballot measures, does not rank or recommend gambling operators and does not give legal or tax advice. Partner material is labelled and kept apart from the editorial sections.

The domain was once the website of the 2022 campaign against Proposition 27. Its pages are kept in the Prop 27 archive; NoProp27 is not affiliated with that campaign or its sponsors. Photographs are freely licensed and credited under each picture; the full list is on the photo credits page.
